Check out our TradeMe Auctions!
We've got lots happening on TradeMe at the moment! All the left over books from this year's book fair are being auctioned off in bulk lots to make room for new books for next year's fair, so if you're after some new books to read, please check them out. Cruz, the winner of New Zealand's Next Top Cat Model is also auctioning off all the prizes that we couldn't use directly with proceeds going to Lonely Miaow and the SPCA. Finally, we're working our way through the left over items from this year's garage sale. We've got everything from DVDs to furniture to blinds for your windows to go up over the next few months! Check out the auctions HERE.
The first kittens of the season??
Just when we thought we'd get some "down time" before the next lot of young kittens came through our doors, these gorgeous bundles of fluff landed on our doorstep. Someone had put them in a box, taped it shut and dumped them outside. Luckily they were found by someone who was kind enough to call us. Yes, mum and kittens will be up for adoption when they're old enough (and they've all been desexed). Until then, they're in the care of one of our foster homes.
Lonely Miaow Book Fair - 24 July 2010
The team at Lonely Miaow would like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who made this year's book fair such a success. If you volunteered your home as a drop off point, delivered flyers, helped with the book sorting, or helped with the set up or on the day - THANK YOU. If you donated books or purchased books on the day (or both!) - THANK YOU.
Thanks also to Aaron and Kim at Storage King St Lukes for the use of their storage unit and extra space for our book sorting. Aaron and Kim also went out of their way to help anyone who turned up to drop off books while our volunteers were not at Storage King. So, if you're looking for a great place to store your stuff with friendly and helpful stuff (who have the added bonus of being cats-lovers) please don't hesitate to contact them.
Our thanks also go to Jacinda from More Than Bread for saving all those banana boxes for us throughout the year! (Be prepared for mouth-watering descriptions of their food if you visit their site - and having tasted some yummy food when picking up boxes we can vouch for their food too!).
The book fair again raised $5000 for our rescue cats and kittens. This will make a big difference to the lives of many stray and abandoned cats and kittens in the greater Auckland area. Without the help of our volunteers and support of local businesses this would not have been possible. Thank you!

Who has the keys to our rescue centre - YOU DO!
One of the things we would really love to have is a rescue centre. It would not need to be anything fancy - a three bedroom house with a big backyard which needs a bit of TLC would be perfect. At the moment our rescuers can only rescue as many cats and kittens as they have room to keep at their own home (the cats and kittens are then moved to foster homes as soon as possible). If we had a rescue centre our rescuers could focus on rescuing as many cats as they have time to rescue after work. (Yep, everyone at Lonely Miaow is a volunteer so we all have to work during the day, to pay our own bills).
This is where YOU come in. We need your old keys - those keys everyone has tucked away somewhere which open unknown locks. If we get a good collection we can exchange them for cash at a scrap metal dealer. If you have some old keys that you no longer want, please send them to us at PO Box 125-138, St Heliers, Auckland 1740.
